Tierra Group was commissioned by Doe Run to design a new tailings storage facility at the Brushy Creek Mine. Tierra Group completed a geotechnical investigation including boring, classifying, and sampling soil and rock. Trade-off studies were performed to minimize construction costs. These trade-offs included construction material optimization through seepage modeling and spillway construction optimization through hydrology and hydraulic modeling. Seepage and slope stability modeling was also performed. A design report was submitted to Missouri Department of Dam Safety allowing Doe Run to obtain necessary construction and operating permits.
Tierra Group provided a desktop and field review of B2Gold’s Santa Pancha Mine hydrogeology. The review identified data gaps in site data and provided recommendations for improve an existing site hydrogeology model and improve underground water management. The hydrogeologic model…
Tierra Group conducted geo-electrical testing to locate leaks present in the geomembrane liners underlying a Solution Conveyance Canal, Sumps 1 and 2, and the Intermediate Pond at Timmins Gold Corp’s San Francisco Mine in Sonora, Mexico. Leak detection testing procedures…
Tierra Group conducted a Preliminary Site Assessment of a potential large-scale landslide near the El Diamante Hydropower Complex in Matagalpa, Nicaragua.
Tierra Group began work at La Trinidad providing heap leach pad construction recommendations and a water balance. Tierra Group continued support with a heap leach pad expansion design, slope stability analyses, hydrologic analyses, diversion design, liner design, and leach solution…
Hydrogeologic Characterization Tierra Group provided hydrogeological support for data characterization and developed a conceptual and groundwater model to evaluate mine water inflows and the associated groundwater drawdown due to mine dewatering activities. Water Management Technical Review Tierra Group provided a…
Tierra Group completed a siting study to evaluate six potential sites for a paste TSF. Tierra Group prepared civil layouts for each TSF, determining embankment fill volumes, evaluating required diversions for upstream catchment areas, and pipeline corridor layouts. Tierra Group…
Tierra Group designed and implemented a stability and safety monitoring plan for Torex Gold’s Morelos Mine dry stack tailings storage facility (TSF). The monitoring plan includes installing inclinometers and vibrating wire piezometers, and training operations staff to download instrumentation readings.…
Tierra Group performed a site visit and visual inspection of a dam to assess its overall condition and provide the Owner recommendations for continued maintenance, monitoring, and improvements. The assessment was a follow-up to previous work completed by Tierra Group…
Barrick Gold Corporation’s Pierina Mine in Ancash Department, Perú began operations in 1998. A progressive reclamation and closure plan began in 2013. In 2015-16 Tierra Group developed detailed engineering designs for channels, sediment traps, two 45,000 m3 sediment ponds, water…
Tierra Group provided tailings engineering design and consulting services for the redevelopment of the Orotex underground mine in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Tierra Group's areas of responsibility included tailings and water management in this environmentally sensitive, high rainfall, tropical, mountainous region.
Tierra Group evaluated the Tajo Crimea Pit’s geotechnical and hydrogeological characteristics to determine in-pit tailings storage feasibility. The project scope defined geotechnical and hydrogeologic site conditions through field investigations and in-situ pump testing. Tierra Group developed a 3D groundwater model…
Sweetwater Mine Permitting Tierra Group’s Team began work at the Sweetwater mine in 1993 assisting permitting and developing tailings impoundment management strategies for the mine. We successfully designed and installed an innovative internal seal for repair of the mine’s damaged…
