Jaguar's gold operations, Turmalina, Paciência and Caeté, are located in the Iron Quadrangle region, a prolific greenstone belt near the city of Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Jaguar controls 27,357 hectares of mineral concessions in this area. Tierra Group International, Ltd. visited Jaguar’s mining operations in the Iron Quadrangle to provide technical peer review of Jaguar’s tailings and waste management practices to identify potential operation/construction cost savings, improve safety, or both. The review included operations at six tailings storage facilities (TSF) and one waste rock/tailings-cake storage facility at the three mining operations.
Tierra Group evaluated the Tajo Crimea Pit’s geotechnical and hydrogeological characteristics to determine in-pit tailings storage feasibility. The project scope defined geotechnical and hydrogeologic site conditions through field investigations and in-situ pump testing. Tierra Group developed a 3D groundwater model…
Tierra Group provided technical direction and review of the Gediktepe Heap Leach Facility (HLF), ponds, and waste rock dump facility designs. Tierra Group will also provide CQA review during HLF construction.
Tierra Group implemented a corporate Tailings Stewardship Strategy (TSS) at all of ASARCO Grupo Mexico’s mines in Arizona, USA (Hayden, Mission and Ray mines). Tierra Group conducted a site visit to each site to perform dam safety inspections, interview operations staff,…

Tierra Group International, Ltd. participated as the geotechnical lead engineering firm for the Copperstone Project Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) in Arizona, U.S.A. Tierra Group was responsible for tailings and waste rock storage, water management and underground geotechnics design and cost estimates…
Tierra Group performed a forensic study to determine the cause for volumetrically non-compliant leakage volumes occurring in the heap leach facilities leak detection system. Tierra Group reviewed the facility design, engineering and construction quality assurance (CQA) information, construction as built…
Tierra Group performed a study of Masbate’s 12-Mt tailings storage facility. Services provided included a forensic study to determine the cause of seepage through an abutment and performed an independent safety audit of tailings management practices. A risk analysis was performed…
Tierra Group completed an annual dam safety inspection (DSI) to meet both Nevada Division of Water Resources (NDWR) Dam Safety and the client's requirements. The DSI included reviewing monitoring data, a dam and appurtenant structures inspection, and a DSI report.
Tierra Group supported proposed Rapid Infiltration Basins Geotechnical Investigation at Au-reka Gold Corporation’s Cove Project in Nevada. Investigation included borehole drilling, test pits, infiltration testing and permeability testing.
Tierra Group performed an independent engineering design review of a Cemented Tailings Facility (CTF) and multiple processes and freshwater ponds. Tailings will be mixed with cement at the paste plant and deposited in the CTF along with underground mine development…
El Gallo is a 3,000 tpd open-pit gold/silver mine located in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range in Mexico’s Sinaloa State. Gold is recovered through heap leaching and adsorption/desorption/recovery (ADR). Production commenced at El Gallo with the first gold pour in September…
Tierra Group was commissioned by Doe Run to design a new tailings storage facility at the Brushy Creek Mine. Tierra Group completed a geotechnical investigation including boring, classifying, and sampling soil and rock. Trade-off studies were performed to minimize construction…
